CONSIDER CARNATIONS

I'm planning a small dinner for Valentine's Day and want to make the dining table look really special. I plan to set the table with a white linen tablecloth and white dinner plates which will provide a neutral landscape for the gorgeous modern floral arrangements-a trio of red and hot pink carnation snowballs. A somewhat unappreciated flower, the bright carnation looks luxe en masse in a chic, contemporary shape. If you are planning a romantic dinner for two, miniature carnation snowballs in pretty china plates and cups look gorgeous too. Have some fun with your flowers!

The arrangement is super easy to put together. Simply soak an oasis ball in water and place cut carnations in the ball until you no longer can see the green foam form. Mist daily and your arrangement should keep for several days.

LOVE this! You are right in saying they are underappreciated but en masse they look exquisite and can give a rose or orchid a run for its money (well maybe not an orchid) love the ball idea..how fun! I hope you will post some pictures of your table...sounds like its going to be stunning.

Love these as well. I'm not normally a carnation girl but these are indeed fabulous! I'm sure your table will be beautiful!

I once saw a story about carnations (think it was a Martha Stewart show years ago) and ever since then I've come to see their delicate beauty. They are gorgeous en masse but I like them any old way.

I tend to shy away from carnations as well -- but they can make such great color displays and I love their fragrance.

That soup -- looks luscious. I love chickpeas. I can't wait to try it!

I went to a party where carnation balls were the decor and it was so lovely (I got to take one home). You are sure to have a special party.
