ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS...IS SOMETHING FROM THE LIZ TAYLOR AUCTION

Across the street from the swarm of tourists milling about the Rockefeller Christmas Tree is another kind of spectacle--one with glittering stones the likes of which this jaded New Yorker has never seen before. Of course, I'm talking about the much anticipated Collection of Elizabeth Taylor exhibit at Christies which began this past Saturday and runs through Dec.12th. A stunning collection of memorabilia which includes several Oscars, costumes from movies, aisles of jeweled designer caftans and a serious artwork collection (a Liz Warhol anyone?) was overshadowed by Liz's famous collection of JEWELS. Diamonds upon diamonds, occasionally punctuated with an dazzling ruby or sapphire were gifts from her many husbands, so many diamonds in fact that I quickly lost count. That is until I came upon THE diamond, the flawless 33.19 carat wonder given to Liz by Richard Burton and sitting oh so close to me under the watchful eye of a guard. I gave him my sweetest smile but it wasn't enough to persuade him to let me try on that fabulous, flawless Krupp diamond. Maybe you'll have better luck, it's worth a try and the exhibit is definitely worth the trip!

The collection will be up for auction both live and online Dec. 13-17. Part of the proceeds will go to The Elizabeth TaylorAIDS Foundation. The beloved actress died March 23 at age 79.

  1. Love it - so many beautiful things! The jewels are stunning and I also love the jacket with all of those pictures from different times in her life! I think we should have one of those about our own lives, what do you think? ;) -- Hope you're enjoying the holiday season!

  3. A group of friends went and rubbed it in on what I missed! (I was unable to go) they said it was worth going a second time. Things are so busy around here I am not sure I will find the time to get away for a whole day but if I can, I will most surely try to get there...this is something I know I would love!
    Thanks for the highlights!
