GATED

It was a beautiful spring weekend, sunny with a slight breeze coming off the ocean; the perfect day for a bicycle ride.  Riding down the village streets by bicycle, there is no better way to see the impressive estates that sit behind the tall rows of privet. In the summer, the privet blooms and fills out, making it impossible to see past the thick rows of green.  But this past weekend, the privet was sparse and the estates were easily visible to those of us enjoying the spring day. My ride took me through the estate section of town where I was struck by the variety and beauty of many of the gates guarding the front of the homes. A beautiful blend of form and function, these architectural elements set the tone for the style and design of the home behind their storied gates.

What a great post and what a gorgeous day to be riding your bike and snapping photos. I loved the idea of shooting all those gorgeous gates. They all have their own unqiue personalities. I adore the gate with the golden retrievers. What is more welcoming than that type of dog? Makes a person feel good just driving in that gate I would imagine. I love your blog. So happy you commented on my so I could find you. Great new week to you ~ Deb

Great post and great photos. You do make me miss the Hamptons, but right now the schedule won't allow a visit. Looks like you had a great ride though. Hope your weekend was wonderful!

Gate envy...............Great idea. You are right HH, the driveway folly's set the tone. For me. I anticipation what follows. Not every one gets it right or in some cases care. The driveway is the window to the soul......
