BOOK CLUB DINNER PARTY

Seasonal Flowers

I love my book club girls- beautiful, smart and amusing, they are a lively lot with plenty to say which makes our book club meetings so much fun.  We try to meet once a month for dinner, drinks and a discussion of our latest book club selection. As host this month, I chose Christopher Buckley's Losing Mum and Pup a personal account of the year both his mother and father died. His mother the glamarous socialite Pat Buckley and his father William F. Buckley, the father of the modern conservative movement were colorful social icons. Their only child Christopher takes readers on an entertaining and at times heartbreaking journey revealing stories and insight about the parents he describes as "not your typical mom and dad."

As the Processo cocktails flowed, the book drew animated conversation and comments, especially relating to parent-child relationships. We all agreed that we would try not to make so many mistakes with our children! We sat down to a buffet style dinner inspired by Swifty's Restaurant, home to ultimate comfort food and the "Ladies who lunch set." Although the "Ladies" don't each very much, we brought a healthy appetite and great conversation to our dinner.  I can't wait for January!

I liked this book when I read it. What were the various views of your book club friends?
