Local strawberries-ripe, delicious and incredibly sweet.
Driving out to Southampton this weekend, a few of the local farm stand signs were advertising the first batch of spring strawberries. I could barely contain myself. There is absolutely nothing like fresh from the fields produce and local Long Island strawberries are like no other. They are only available for a few weeks in June, so I usually buy a few quarts to eat immediately and then freeze some for later. The sweet scent of the delicate berries welcomed me to Anderson's farm stand in Riverhead. The strawberries were dark, decadent and delicious.
Still warm from the sun, I bought two quarts and nearly ate one container on the way home!
With fruit this perfect, just serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream and a sprig of fresh mint. The ultimate summer dessert. Delicious!

Just watch what they use for pesticides...strawberries are the top 3 most toxic fruits if they aren't organic :O(
Oh I love our local strawberries! It's official - I MUST get out east soon! Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy!

Oh, I love farm fresh strawberries.
Mmm! Looks yummy. I think I'll go get some out of my fridge =)
Beautiful berries! When our children were small, we would take them berry-picking, and we always joked that the farmer should weigh them before and after because they ate so many berries in the patch!
Is there anything more delicious in the summer...off to my farmers market this morning!

Strawberries right off the vine is one of the many reasons why going out to the Hamptons before July is an absolutely must for us. Sadly, the growing season is so short but the memories of their deliciousness, so sweet!
I can't get enough of the locally grown produce. Imagine what it was like 200 years ago when this was the ONLY time of year you could get fresh fruits and veg at all!
