SUNGLASS HUNT

Designer trends this year-what's old is new again!
Whether you spend a small fortune on a pair of designer sunglasses or find a clever look alike, sunglasses are the ultimate summer fashion accessory. They protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays, and look fantastic too!

I am still mourning a pair of Tom Ford Whitney sunglasses (a big splurge!) that I accidently left in a taxi cab.  In the market for a new pair, I thought it would be fun to see what celebrities are sporting this summer and a few big trends appeared-

Gwyneth Paltrow

Classically framed Aviators are hot this season.  Remember Tom Cruise in Top Gun?  The wire rimmed, dark lensed sunglasses have a teardrop shape that seems to flatter nearly everyone's face.

Katie Holmes in Dolce Gabanna

Bigger the better-hello dahling! Oversized and super chic shades first became popular with Jackie Onassis, who favored round large frames.  I am a huge fan of big shades-they are so glamorous and offer great protection from the sun.

Demi Moore in Tom Ford

Ray-Ban Wayfayers-retro favorite of young celebs like Sienna Miller, the Wayfarer is a super sporty frame that comes in classic black as well as lots of fun, bright colors. Once popular in the 50's and early 60's (remember Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's ?), this frame made a huge comeback in the 80's. I love the Wayfarer, but I think that if you rocked a pair in the 80's (like me) you should take a pass on wearing them today!

  Jessica Alba

So many fabulous choices.  So little summer! What's your favorite shade?

Good advice about the Wayfarers, although I loved mine at the time. Personally, I'm going for some big Jackie type frames this summer; I think I look a bit like a bug in Aviators!

I love sunglasses!! I cannot live without them, ever. And, the bigger the better for me, except the one favorite pair of Gucci, rimless, dark blue lens fading to light blue, perfect at night to hide dark circles, they are my signature glasses. I paid $600 for them 10 years ago, had the lens retinted once. So amortize that.
Great post. xx's

I bought a pair of Gucci's huge ones in Canada a few years back while on vacation. Every cool looking chic was wearing it, so I thought I had to blend in. :)

I have never regreted. When I got back in the States I found this Prada pair that was a little bit more streamlined and modern. I have no idea where they are, since the Gucci pair is the one you ALWAYS see me wearing.

I am thinking I need to invest in some aviator RayBans (sp?). Because of their classic shape, I know i will always go back to them from time to time.
