I've been on a book bender. I love buying books; looking at their covers, reading the brief synopsis inside, carefully culling my choices down and bringing my new finds home. The problem is that I don't have room to store them in my bedroom. My quick fix is stacking them in corners and on the top of my desk grouped in loose categories; Cleopatra is nestled between Keith Richards and Gloria Vanderbilt. I hope they like each other. I need a permanent solution for my book excess and have been exploring putting a set of bookshelves in my room. I like the symmetry of two bookshelves flanking a window. Lot's of room for my collection of books and hopefully a few empty shelves too.

That room with the armoire filled with books is so pretty... love it! xo
I love books in a home and I like seeing being displayed! Books tell such a story about one's interests, travels, topics of curiousity and dare of say, intelligence! How are you holding up in the snow? Hopefully with a good book and cup of tea! Will you be at the NYIGF?
I love those built-in shelves and have been considering this for our bedroom. I'd also love to add them in our upstairs hall. I love books, and no matter how often I fill a box for donation, my shelves fill right back up again. I hope you are warm and safe with many books at hand for this latest snow.
Just found your blog and I love it! It is gorgeous! I love a beautiful book, I am hoping to get huge built in book cases one day to showcase my books! Look forward to following you!

Recently moved a bookshelf into our bedroom and I like that some of the shelves are empty - feels like a promise of things to come. LOVE the pieces in the first image.
LOVE the new blog look!
These shelves are all beautiful. I am obsessed with books and their shelves. I love the first images especially!
Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful. There is nothing better than a good book -- and displaying them well is even better. Wonderful ideas to how to display a loved collection!
Hope you are staying warm!!

Just came back after reading your comment on my bench to let you know I showed the whole room last week (before the bench arrived). http://www.evertonterrace.com/2011/01/pagoda-17-contd.html
Books, never enough books! They are stacked beside the overflowing bookshelves. I could use some of these ideas! xo Cathy
I love books too and have them all over my house. Besides the obvious place being a library if you are lucky enough to have one...I like putting them in my bedroom too. So...I found the biggest (but cool looking) basket I have ever seen, its probably a good 4 feet by 5 feet...MEGA...and inside goes all my books and favorite magazines. I only put the mags I know I will keep for a long long time and i have tons and tons of books....it keeps them all in one place. Its a method to my madness...happy reading!
I love books too! Thank goodness for the kindle, because if I bought them all in print, we'd be inundated. And I do give all but my favorites away. But eventually, there will be new shelves brought into various rooms. There are just too many. I have Cleopatra on my list - do tell us if you liked it.
Wanted to let you know that I made the Momofuko Crack Pie last night...thank you for putting the recipe on your blog.
It is quite decadent and sweet. I think I will adjust the sugar down a bit next time...even my kids thought is was really sweet!
I have a major book issue - I now have stacks next to my bed because I just don't have enough bookshelves. Love all this inspiration - both the built-ins and the free standing symmetrical ones!!
I do like the open metal shelves on the first picture. However for the most part I like the taller ones best if you have the room. The second picture the shelves don't look to scale with the wonderful high ceilings and window treatments. Also the junk on top of them bothers me. There are so many places to add bookshelves and they don't always have to be too fancy. Even inexpensive naked furniture types can have moldings added for more detail.
Well read, well said! I completely agree with this chapter and the volumes of style!! XO
I have a weakness for books. I love that they inform, inspire, entertain and as an extra look great mixed into a home's decor.
The 2nd image is a favorite....I love a cozy bedroom packed with books and special things.
