Southside Cocktail
As Hurricane Irene slowly makes her way up the East Coast, we are making our final preparations for our cocktail party this evening.  I'm trying not to focus on the level three hurricane that appears to be heading directly to NYC-the sun is shining today and this evening should be perfect for an outdoor cocktail party. For small gatherings I keep a full bar in my living room all laid out on a pretty silver tray but for tonights party I decided to serve a selection of wine and a signature cocktail and forgo the full bar.  If you go this route make sure to include both red and white wines. I am serving my favorite rose,  a Domaines Ott a Cote de Provence that all the girls love as well as a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and light Pinot Noir.  For the signature drink, I'll be serving a Hampton's classic, the Southside a minty sweet-sour cocktail that is light and refreshing and very addictive. Cheers!
My at home bar
A summer favorite!
This drink can be made with vodka or rum but I prefer the taste of rum.
  • 1-2 oz white rum
  • 1/2 oz Triple sec
  • 2 oz Lime juice
  • Ice
  • Some Mint leaves
  • add all ingredients to blender including one mint leaf and blend. Pour into glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

Hello Dear Hampton Hostess -

I'm in South Florida, so I share your anxiety about Irene - so glad she passed us, but hoping she does no damage to our friends up north...

In the meantime, your cocktail party looks lovely - and, from the weather predictions, you may all very well need it!

Stay positive and enjoy - will send Prayers Irene stays way out in the Atlantic and decides to stay there (have family in Fairfield, Connecticut and Jamestown, Rhode Island - right by the shore!!!)

Best Wishes,
beachside cottage

HOW did you know? This is one of my alltime favorite drinks! Try it blended in a blender for a knock out refresher!

Have a great party and stay safe! They say we're in for it this weekend! At least tonight should be great weather for your party.

You got very lucky, its a beautiful night on the East coast despite what is looming right behind it! So happy for you that it didn't involve a cancellation....we know someone scheduled to attend a beachside wedding in Southampton on Sunday, needless to say its not happening there and they are going through all kinds of crazy trying to figure things out! I am sure your party will be Domaines Ott, the perfect summer party drink and Southsides and Seabreezes are my favorite mixed drinks!

I love that Cote de Provence, too! My daughter lives on the lower east side and made "hurricanes" that Caribbean drink with rum last night. Hope you are all OK.
