IN SEARCH OF HOUNDSTOOTH

Considered a classic, houndstooth has been a fashion trend several times in history, with peaks during the 1930s, the 1970s, and again making a splash on the design scene the past decade or so. What's made houndstooth au courant?  The pattern has been super-sized, taking the Scottish classic into big, bold territory. Whether using the classic black and white scheme or a more delicate pink or light green color palette, the large houndstooth pattern packs a graphic punch that seems so right today.

  1. Classic, but fun! I love the pattern in a rug. So many great examples.

  2. I've noticed quite a bit of houndstooth on the sales floor this fall, and love to see it in the home, too. There's something so sophisticated and chic--but fun and irreverent--about it.

  3. I love houndstooth, not just because the late Bear Bryant wore the houndstooth hat! It is so clean and simple.
I really love the rug in the first image. It has just the right amount of movement.

  7. I love houndstooth too! I saw a fabulous deep, rich remnant at the carpet store in Southampton...tried to figure out where I could use it...it was fabulous! Wonder if it is still there? Hmmmm. Ground round up!

  9. I love it mixed with other patterns, like you show in the decorpad pink/orange room, and also in that adorable nursery. And those glasses are way cool...fun post!

  10. Love houndstooth and in fact yesterday was at Ralph Lauren and chose a houndstooth for an upholstered ottoman we are doing and pillows and a wing chair. Its so pretty and rich, this is such a classic look and pairs up beautifully with almost anything. Beautiful choices of fresh takes on an old classic.
