A SUNSHINE DAY

What do you do when you have a dark room that really needs some light? I faced this dilemma recently with a very large kitchen space that faced the back of the apartment building giving the interior very little natural light to work with. We solved the problem by adding several layers of lighting to the room which brightened it up, and used cabinets in a glossy warm white with bright polished nickel hardware. Now the room needed a punch of color to liven the interior. Our inspiration was a bright yellow Lilly Pulitzer chair designed in a modern take on the traditional Chippendale design. We've loved the idea of a bright yellow color which would add a dose of sunshine to the room and play off the largely white canvas. We found a McGuire chair in bamboo that came in counter stools, dining chairs and side chairs (no small feat!) and decided to use the dark tobacco stain as a nice contrast.  For the seat cushions, Quadrille's Aga and Reverse Aga in taxicab was spot on-adding a bold, graphic, sunny punch of color just where it was needed.

I can't wait to show you the finished room in June!

Sounds like a fun project Barbara and yellow always adds a little bit of cheer to a space, love that first picture, looks like late day sun and I imagine the beach to be just beyond and I can practically hear the waves crashing, smell the bbq getting cranked up, hearing the bossa nova softly playing while sipping my drink...ahhhhh, summer! Its the best! Have a great night!

I love that shade of yellow. I painted our patio pole that color and it makes me smile whenever I walk out the back door. My house numbers are also that color :)
