SCHIAPARELLI AND PRADA AT THE MET

I had heard all the hype about the new exhibit,  Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, currently on exhibit at the Met, and ran over to view it last Friday. I was not disappointed. The premise of the exhibit is an orchestrated  tete-a-tete between Prada and Schiaparelli (played by actress Judy Davis) which is composed of paraphrased excerpts of the late fashion designer's autobiography combined with Prada's filmed remarks. The "Conversation" element is beautifully executed and fascinating to watch, but the real draw of this exhibit is the stunning collection of approximately 100 designs by Schiaparelli from the late 1920's to the early 1950's and by Prada from the late 1980's to the present. The juxtaposition of their garments, which are assembled in seven themed galleries, highlights the overlapping themes in their work and provides an unprecedented look at the scope of these iconic designer's work. The exhibit is a fashionista's dream, beautifully executed and a must see. May 10-August 19, 2012.

I love where I live but do envy all the fabulous exhibits and events you all have access to "out there".
Thank you for sharing a glimpse into this one. It looks fabulous, I'd love to see all of it.
I find it interesting they used red background, you don't see that very often.

What a wonderful exhibition and thankfully I'll get to see it before it's gone. I love the costume department they have such a wealth of clothing from all periods.

I'm so excited to see this exhibit. When we were in Paris, the windows at Didier Ludot were filled with vintage Prada and Schiaparelli - it was like a little preview. I think I could hear these two amazing ladies whispering a conversation!
Have a beautiful week, Barbara! XO

I was in the city today and had the pleasure! Wonderfully composed. The "impossible conversation" between Schiaparelli and Prada set the mood. And the ensembles and comparisons...Amazing! I have a question...do you know anything about the mask hoods?
