BEHIND THE PRIVET-SIX SWANS IN SOUTHAMPTON

"Keep it casual, it's not for Sunday."
The home's owner expressed this sentiment at the beginning of the project and it became the guiding force behind the design of Six Swans, a stunning newer home with a decidedly old soul. East Hampton architect Frank Greenwald based the home's traditional lines on a combination of several styles of the past, creating a beautiful structure that fits perfectly with the stately abodes found in Southampton's estate section. Interior Designer Steven Gambrel's masterful use of distressed woodwork, reclaimed stone, applied leather and plasterwork and custom and vintage pieces created carefully composed, yet wonderfully casual rooms-a stunning expression of effortless style and a well-lived life.

The clients European roots can be found in was designed for daily family living where cooking meals and entertaining guests intermingle.

The serving room has a beautiful antique patina
The library's design was based on a library in a Grosvenor Atterbury home on the East End. The wood work was finished to look like it had been bleached by years of rugged seaside climate.

The living room has dual fireplaces and a striking view of the bay beyond.
The rooms soft color palette and casual furnishings were kept subdued so they wouldn't compete with the spectacular view

The back staircase features custom fixtures crafted from an antique lighthouse lantern.

The barrel vaulted ceiling on the second floor landing frames a collection of antique ship dioramas
The master bedroom has water views on both sides

Barbara,
This is one of the prettiest houses I've seen. I love it, mainly because it isn't over the top, it appears to be so organically beautiful.
Have a great weekend.

I meant to write a comment here earlier, because I love this house, but time just went by fast...
Well, this home is marvelous, inspiring with the eclectic feel over all but mainly the lighting ..I loved to see how different styles of lighting work well together in a home...not all the same period and material...or look, but very very different.
I adore her nook, which reminds me of mine with elegant curtain yet lighting is rod iron style .... well you all see it ...it is looking great together, yet normaly you would not see this placed in that fashion.

Great home!
ciao Z

There are many different types of reclaimed stones available and one of the most common is Yorkstone. This is because it is hard wearing, durable and aesthetically pleasing. Yorkstone can be used in flooring, patios and more.
