SPRING FLOWERS

Topiary Garden

"Spring Is In The Air," the theme for this years annual Macy's Flower Show, was an extravagant and spectacular homage to the rites of spring. I had the pleasure to visit the exhibit yesterday, the last day of the show, and was so glad I did.  The entire first floor of Macy's was transformed into a whimsical garden wonderland with over 30,000 varieties of exotic trees and flowering plants.  Visitors were greeted by a gigantic replica of a hot air balloon, its passenger basket filled with blooming dogwood branches.  I was awed by the sheer volume of flowers; gardens seemed to be blooming in each and every corner of the store. My favorite gardens featured giant topiaries of elephants and snakes weaving through luscious landscaped trees and flowers-all perched precariously high on top of merchandising cabinets.  As the columnist Cindy Adam's says, "Only in New York kids, only in New York."

Beautiful Slim! Every year, I plan to go, and then the spring gets so busy, I rarely do!

Sorry to go off topic, but to answer your question, most of the photos I post are taken with a Canon digital SLR, including the last two posts. A few are with an old point and shoot digital, like the Mystic photos. If you don't want a big digital, I would recommend the Leica D-lux or a Sony. The Leica is what Slim Paley uses on her page, and you see how gorgeous her photos come out. Sony wins for tiny cameras, small enough to fit in an evening bag. I have one smaller than a deck of cards.

OK - sorry about that - I wrote Slim instead of Barbara - but that just means I LOVED your photos because hers are terrific. Sorry! I swear, I should never type on a Monday!
