PRETTY GIRL

The balmy weather yesterday had me taking to the streets.  While walking down Fifth Ave. towards Madison Square Park (23rd & Fifth) I saw a huge cherry picker erecting an enormous sculpture of a young girl's face. The scene was truly surreal.  A small crowd had gathered around "Echo" a striking 44 ft. fiberglass sculpture by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. The ethereal face was inspired by both a real nine year old girl and the Greek nymph Echo. According to the artist, the monolith is intended as “a mirror in which people can see themselves.” Nestled among the blooming spring trees and skyscrapers "Echo" is radiant.

I've become fond of these outdoor installations popping up around the city-their presence adds an unexpected excitement to the city streets and parks. Just last week I came face to face with a giant Teddy Bear perched outside the  Seagram building on 52nd Street. The sculpture, by New York-based Swiss artist Urs Fischer, is called Untitled (Lamp/Bear), and Christie's will auction it off in May. He's cute enough to take home!

With increased OH&S regulation its essential that you have completed recognised training and obtained the certificate. A second forklift security that could be offered by a large number of businesses is inside the form of the operator seat. Personally, I didn't need to use them to move at all.
