ON THE ROAD AGAIN

I'm so sorry I've been MIA for the beginning of this week.  It's spring break, and while that phrase may evoke images of lounge chairs and tall glasses of rum punch, I've been on a four day marathon college tour of the South with my daughter.  We've had a fantastic time visiting seven universities from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta, GA but at the end of the day I've been too exhausted to even attempt a quick post.  I did want to share with you some beautiful photos of Thomas Jefferson's ancestral home Monticello that I had the pleasure to visit on Sunday.  The 5,000 acre plantation is situated on the summit of an 850 foot high peak in the Southwest Mountains south of the Rivanna Gap. The house, which Jefferson designed beginning in 1769, was based on the neoclasscal principle of of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio. The architecture is simply stunning and a visit to this UNESCO World Heritage Centre should be on everyone's to do list.

Oh I remember those days all too well. We live in Arizona but my daughter only wanted to look at school east of the Mississippi. All our college trips involved long flights. It was an exciting time :)

We visited Jefferson's house a few years ago and loved it but the colors in the rooms were a tad bright. I hope you're having a nice time with your daughter!

What a fun trip!! I have a friend who is also college shopping with her son right now. It made me think about what an exciting time it is but I think when I was younger, I just wanted to get it over with - to get my acceptance letter and be done with it!

In my 4 years at UVA, I made many trips to Monticello and always found something new to marvel over. Such a beautiful, fascinating place!

UVA is an amazing school. Monticello is BEAUTIFUL! My in-laws have a home near there because my father-in-law went to UVA. It's a great part of the country! xoxo

I won't be doing that again for a few years. I have two at college and two at home. It's an exciting time isn't it!?

I can't wait to visit Monticello- I've certainly read enough about it and can only imagine how beautiful it the grounds must have been this time of year!

I visited Jefferson's house as a teen so my recollection is vague.. enjoyed the pictures :) A special trip and wonderful time spent with your daughter! This is a huge transition for kids/parents and I'm sure your daughter will find the perfect University for her needs. My kids are almost finished .. long and expensive journey :)

Barbara,
Seems like only yesterday we did the same thing...college tours. Wow, does time fly or what? I've never been to Jefferson's house but it's been on my list for years. Thanks for the reminder, I need to organize a trip to the region of the country.
Have fun.
Karen
