My husband's family has been vacationing on the island of Anguilla since the 1970's. Back then, the island was a quaint oasis known to a select few, with dirt roads leading to pristine beaches and road side stands serving the best grilled fish imaginable. It was a bit barefoot bohemian, which suited everyone that visited the island just fine.
A lot has changed since then. Luxury resorts now dot the island with first rate spas and world class golf courses. It's all become very chi-chi, but the essence of the island is still there. The beaches remain some of the prettiest I've ever seen-soft sand that goes for miles and a postcard perfect blue ocean.
If you've never been--the island should be at the top of your list. I suggest booking an oceanfront room at The Viceroy, the latest luxury resort to open its doors. Uber designer Kelly Wearstler created a tranquil, sophisticated ambiance in a beautiful beach front setting. Best of all, if you book now and travel by December 19th, you receive one night free for every night you stay--who says summer has to end?
