Good Night Irene

We brought all the outdoor furniture in, bought the required C batteries and bottled water and waited for Irene's arrival. As the wind picked up early Sunday we made a quick trip through town. People were busy boarding storefronts some sporting pithy signs for Irene. I watched through the night as the tall Cryptomeria trees in my front yard swayed too and fro, amazed every time they seemed to settle straight after a mighty gust. A scattering of tree branches on the lawn greeted us Monday morning, the only sign that Irene had made her way past our home.  We were one of the lucky ones. We drove down the street and gingerly made our way through flooded streets and felled old oaks-the town's landscape had been changed forever.

Our electric is out so I'm posting from the library.  I hope you all made it through Irene safely.

So pleased you made it unscathed through Irene. I was watching CNN with bated breath all weekend. Mother Nature sure has been seeking her revenge all over the planet this year :-(

So glad that you were one of the lucky ones! The pictures on the news tell a horrible story.
Hopefully things will be back to normal for you soon.

Hard having no power, but glad that you are safe. We had some really hard hit areas in NC.

Glad you are OK! I complained nonstop about lost power and even more about no internet (what! being cut off from blogland) but when we got it all back last night and I saw the destruction and devastation at places like Vermont and NJ, I realized we actually got lucky as it coudl have been so much worse. Lets hope this doesn't happen again for a long long long time!
