My friends thought I was crazy when I installed two white slip covered sofas into our family room. I'll admit, with three kids and a dog whose favorite past time is rolling in dirt, white sofas might not have been the most popular choice, but I love the crisp look and versatility that accompanies a white sofa--its the perfect blank canvas for a myriad of great looks. While the sofa has stayed (going on 8 years and dozens of washings), I've changed up the pillows often--bright yellow one summer, a cool blue ikat print another. Its a quick fix that can really transform a room--and its much easier to change out a pillow than a sofa!

A blue-and-white scheme is timeless and perfectly updated with wooden bead trim.

I share your passion for pillows. Good for you for having the courage to go white, the couches look wonderful.

All of our sofa and chairs are slipcovered and it doesn't have to be just white. I love how versatile slipcovers are and simlpe upkeep. I'm off to read your article.

Your white sofas are perfect, especially for the Hamptons. I was just in Mecox on my way to a client's house and took a few pillows on approval, they had a great selection! Also saw your piece in the hamptons magazine, congrats...

Barbara,
Your living room is fabulous. I'm on the brink about white slip covers. Kids are grown and gone but 2 doggies that seem to want to walk in from the outdoors and rub their face on the front of the sofa. My dilemma, is it a real challenge to get the slipcovers back on once washed?

I always love the look of white sofas. Versatility is a girl's best decorating friend. I'm a pillow-changer too!!!

Happy Weekend among the hydrangeas!

I did that once, too. It's actually not bad because you can bleach their spills unlike with other colors!

The white sofas look great! And since it's a slipcover who cares if the kids get them a little dirty? You can always wash :) And I love that with having a neutral background you can create diversity in style with the pillows and a throw. Happy Friday Barbara!
