POST SANDY

View of the storm from my apartment
I hope you are all safe and well; it's been an absolutely horrible week for those of us living in Tri-State area, homes destroyed in the boro's and massive destruction to the cities infrastructure. Our electricity was out until yesterday afternoon, forcing me to walk up the 44 floors to my apartment everytime the dog needed to go out, but we were one of the lucky ones.  I live on the East River, serene and picturesque until Sandy hit and the water breached the highway on the river with nearly 8 feet of water. The building rocked like a boat for several hours as the storm moved through the city. As I walked up those stairs in the dark, Dash and I would stop every few flights to catch our breath and inevitably someone would peek out their door asking if I knew when the lights would be coming on. Neighbors who did not know each other became fast friends, loaning flashlights, cellphones and picking up groceries for those home bound.  When the elevators started up again, a collective cheer could be heard throughout the building, and now when I see those neighbors I met in the dark hallways, we make sure to give each other a friendly hello. We are the lucky ones, so many were not, please keep them in your thoughts.

I am so glad you are safe and doing well! Growing up in south FL, I've lived through hurricanes and understand how it can bring out both the best and worst in people. So happy to know you have your power back and met some great neighbors along the way!

I'm so glad to know you are safe. Fourth-four floors - yikes. Not sure if I'm in that good of shape. It's amazing how disasters bring people together.

44 floors! You must be in an amazing shape! Aim still living in a freezing dark house with generator for the basic needs such as plumbing and refrigerator. Dealing with the showroom has been a nightmare and quite depressing. The first day, it took me 5 hours to get to the city and 30 blocks walk. I actually was going to sleep in the showroom. My employees were amazing and made it through to to 3 hours commute from just the other side of the river. But we are all healthy, the showroom had no damage but I lost beautiful trees that framed my house...now getting ready for the Designing Greenwich show , my manufacturer are trying to make little miracles for me to get the furniture for the show...keep warm and enjoy the little comforts of life!

God bless all of you. I am so sorry for the damage and the loss of life. You really find out how strong you are and how good people really are when something like this happens.

Oh my, forty-four floors! I'm so glad to hear you are safe. Living in the south we've experienced hurricanes inland with power outages. Cold or hot, it's horrible! I'm thankful you have electricity again and you are safe. I'm so sorry for the loss of life and devastation there. Continued thoughts and prayers..........

Barbara, I have been very worried about you and other eastern blog friends. I 'm so happy to hear your power is back and that you and dash were able to weather the storm and meet some new friends in the process. I still haven't heard from my dear college days friend living in NJ.
I wish you a peaceful weekend.

Happy you are ok! It is hard to imagine the devastation- watching it on the news is not the same as seeing it. Dash is so cute - good luck!
