SPUTNIK STYLE

The 1st Dibs floor in the New York Design Center is one of my favorite design shopping haunts. The vendors showcase a curated and eclectic mix of antiques from the 19 C. to the 1980's, many with an emphasis on mid-century pieces.  Even if your aren't in the market, there is great "eye candy" and design inspiration to be had.

I found myself drawn to the Sputnik chandeliers. One of the most quintessential mid-century light fixtures, the Sputnik light features a space-age star burst pattern with sleek, contemporary arms.  Named for the 1950's Soviet satellite, the fixtures atomic-age design made it popular in the 50's and 60's and today's resurgence for Mid-century design has the darling Sputnik dangling from chic foyers and dining rooms everywhere.

If you can't make it to 1st Dibs, Jonathan Adler's Sputnik inspired chandelier is a classic take on this favorite.

DESIGN ON A DIME

Everything was for sale and going fast at the annual Design on a Dime event for the charity Housing Works this past weekend at the Metropolitan Pavilion. More than 50 top interior designers created stylish vignettes with donated furniture and fabric which was all for sale at 50-70 percent off retail. The result- controlled chaos as the smart set scooped up some serious bargains!

Bibliophile dream at David Duncan Antiques-note the fun faux wallpaper

A dose of sunshine from Cullman and Kravis

David Scott Interiors creates a gold dipped interior with a clever wall covering made from spray painted corrugated boxes.

Chinoiserie chic at Hamilton Design Associates was created with a stylish deep blue backdrop and rich textiles.

Healing Barsanti created a bold architectural wall using chalk and blackboard paint-the classic motif continues with beautiful busts and furnishings.

Yetta and Tracey created a rocker chic room with a whimsical floral ceiling and edgy art.

Great use of Celerie Kemble's new fabric line for Kravet as wall covering in Patrick James Hamilton's vivid room.

Driving maps were layered for an interesting wall covering.

Yetta Banks room featured arresting photography and graphic black and white prints.
Happy Monday!

PALM BEACH CHIC

There's something so fresh about a Palm Beach interior. It's bright and preppy with a decidedly sophisticated edge; Palm Beach style is certainly cultivated but doesn't takes things too seriously.  It has a "go bold or go home" attitude that I find entirely endearing!
