SCHIAPARELLI AND PRADA AT THE MET

I had heard all the hype about the new exhibit,  Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, currently on exhibit at the Met, and ran over to view it last Friday. I was not disappointed. The premise of the exhibit is an orchestrated  tete-a-tete between Prada and Schiaparelli (played by actress Judy Davis) which is composed of paraphrased excerpts of the late fashion designer's autobiography combined with Prada's filmed remarks. The "Conversation" element is beautifully executed and fascinating to watch, but the real draw of this exhibit is the stunning collection of approximately 100 designs by Schiaparelli from the late 1920's to the early 1950's and by Prada from the late 1980's to the present. The juxtaposition of their garments, which are assembled in seven themed galleries, highlights the overlapping themes in their work and provides an unprecedented look at the scope of these iconic designer's work. The exhibit is a fashionista's dream, beautifully executed and a must see. May 10-August 19, 2012.

FALL TREND-SUEDE SANDALS

Alexa Chung in Prada Suede Sandals
I know it's fall but I just can't bear to put away my sandals, and luckily, with a gorgeous new crop in fall's jewel tones I won't have to until I'm knee deep in snow.

TRINKET BOXES

Collectible, sentimental, unusual-what's your personality?

Eclectic
In The Proposal, pushy book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock), suddenly sentimental, keeps this chic brass fish box on her bedside table (next to the family fertility blanket!)

BoHo

This antique treasure box could only belong to Kiera Knightly as the lovely Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean.  Captain Jack Swann (Johnny Depp) would make sure it was filled it with some lovely bling.

Couture

Uber stylish Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is a controlling, terrifying magazine editor in The Devil Wears Prada. The chic RAD crystal box would be strategically placed on an her custom Paul Frankl side table. Do Not Touch!

Adventurer
"I want to go someplace where I can marvel at something," and so does Julia Roberts as Liz Gilbert in Eat Pray Love. Perhaps she picked up this olive wood box in Bali with her hunky beau.

Classic
This chic silver Christofle trinket would have been given to Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) in Breakfast At Tiffany's by one of her many suitors, probably found buried under a pile of stilettos and black cocktail dresses.

Happy hunting!
